What I love most about basketball? AND NO, IT’S NOT THE FACT THAT MY BUNS GET TONED. Tuesday, Oct 9 2007

What I love must about basketball can be summed up by the great Charles Dickens. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of dispair.”
Simply put, my love of basketball is like the love Chubacco has for Han Solo. You are going to have to go through someone very harry to hurt the other. ( Like Will Ferell said, “THAT JUST DOESN’T MAKE SENSE!”)

When I have the ball in the post, and I pull a Hakeem-the-dream-like move on my defender and hit a 7-footer, I feel like Harry when he met Sally; like Vanessa Hudgens felt when her agent told her she was the most frequent search on Google.com… well… nevermind, you know how I feel.
“Im so close to dunking,” I tell myself. Over and over. Over and over. When in the warmup drills before the championship game of my summerleague, I was laying the ball up with a finger-roll and hitting the rim with the back of my fingers (imagery), I knew i was just weeks away. And well today I was grabing rim at my high school basketball practice. That is a great, ENTERTAINING, part of basketball.
But what i love most is how in a game, you can be up like Albert Einstein’s hair, or you can be down like the French when they were told by the EU that they should shave their legs and bathe at least once a week.
Basketball is unpredictable; a team full of Shawn Bradleys can beat a team full of Shawn Marions. A team full of Dane Cooks can beat a team full of Wesley Snipes. How? With some hustle and some heart. That is a great part of basketball.
Whether yout playing at the high school or college level, or your playing at the local “courts” with your uncoordinated buddy Chester; everyone wants to win. “Have fun,” I say, ” but win.”
The game can change instantly, and all that matters is how you respond when your down.
In the words of my coach, ” It’s not how tired you get, it’s how fast you recover.”

FL basketball isn’t what it used to be.. well was it ever anything to begin with? Tuesday, Oct 9 2007

Not everyone is “cut” out for the cookie that is high school basketball. Am I? Well who knows? But at an athletic 6 foot 2, I think i can survive the intense workouts; and show others the sometimes biased process of climbing the ranks.
Does anyone really know (or care), what the coaches do before the official basketball season starts Oct. 29th in Hillsborough County, Fl?
Similar to High School Musical 2, fried green beens, and that car called the Scion; high school basketball in the state of Florida, Hillsborough County ESPECIALLY, just doesn’t get the respect it deserves.
Sure, Hillsborough County is known for producing the likes of: Gary Sheffield, “Sweet” Lou Pinella, Dwight “Doc” Gooden, Daryl Strawberry, and Carl Everret (a personal favorite of mine). But does that mean that basketball in Hillsborough County should be ignored like ESPN DEPORTES?
This blog is dedicated, if you will, to high school basketball and sports in general; to the life of a high schooler trying to persue a career in journalism; and my idol Ben Affleck. Here will be information on what goes on around and behind the scenes of sports.
And as far as people saying that Florida is a football state, and a baseball state, and a soccer state, and a swimming state; I think basketball is just about to skyrocket on the charts. What do you think?
Well worded like a bad Britany Spears song; that’s for you to decide baby.
